Bean$ Collective
Bean$ is a collective for electroacoustic improvisation based in Salzburg, Austria, founded in November 2023. Three different worlds of sound — the analog, the digital, and the instrumental — brought together through performance and improvisation.
Tibor Victor Hugo Kovacs (on the right) is a german composer and sound artist working in multimedia art and analog synthesis. In Bean$, he improvises on a largely self-assembled modular synthesiser.
Samuele Giulio Ferrari (in the middle) is an italian composer whose practice moves between instrumental work and live electronics. In the collective, he plays an 8-string electric guitar — sometimes fed into a modular synthesiser — through a set of live-electronics and FX pedals.
Nicolas Speda (on the left) is a german composer and sound artist with a focus on digital sound synthesis, live-coding and algorithmic work. He performs in SuperCollider, a code-based environment for sound synthesis and live-electronics, building patches he can navigate like an instrument.
In a world where the digital and the physical feel increasingly distant from one another, Bean$ looks for the places where they meet — and pushes into them.
The collective also works against the traditional concert format. Their performances are open-space: audiences can come and go, move around, sit, lay down, interact — or simply let the sound wash over them. Somewhere between live performance and sound installation.
